Lucius Orgueille is the oldest son and heir of the Orgueille House, a low-ranked noble household from the Beltrum Kingdom, until its fall he was the King's Sword Candidate at the same time as Alfred Emerle. He worked as an adventurer, then murdered Ayame Karasuki, and left Rio in the slums.
After leaving the kingdom, he formed the Heavenly Lion Mercenary Group becoming famous in the Strahl Region as a small elite group, so famous that other adventurers wanted to join.
Appearance[]
His facial features were refined, but his eyes were sharp, and there was some form of intensity behind him.[1]
After his battle against Rio, Lucius' appearance greatly changed, something that shocked Lucci, Arein and Ven. He now dons an eye-patch on his left eye and, under his eye patch the eye that he lost against Rio was replaced by a jet-black eye with a golden iris, the left arm that Rio reduced to ashes was replaced but another left arm given to him by Reis that he keeps enveloped in black bandages from the fingertips until the shoulder.[2]

Alfred described the Lucius from when they were young as someone who didn't like to be tied down by anything, someone who lacked consciousness as a noble and loyalty, someone with bad companies, but his talent with sword was undeniable and he liked to show off that talent to those without it.
He enjoys the thrill of winning against people stronger than him gaining the upper hand on them with some dirty trick, every time that he meets someone strong he won't be able of forgiving that person if he/she isn't someone as pure as him, if in his opinion they waste their strength on people different from themselves, when he meets a person like that he will want to show that person the futility of having things to protect and the powerlessness after failing to protect them for after that killing that person, one of his hobbies is to kill his victims in front of their important people and letting some of those witnesses go out alive expecting them to come back for revenge one day, in his opinion the resentment is the spice of life and he enjoys fueling his opponents black emotions and sending them back to him/her.
Rio described him as beast wearing human skin, someone cunning and smart that will always do things the way that allows him to enjoy them the most no matter how he needs to prolong the process, when Reiss was preparing his plan for assassinating Rio using Lucius, Nidor warned him that even if he was someone good at using people Lucius is was more of a cunning beast used to manipulate people too, that even if believes to have him under control it may not be that way.
History[]
Lucius' father worked as a low rank administrative in the Beltram Kingdom's royal curt, the Orgueille house's rank was so low they could barely be called nobles, the family's chances of rising in status depended completely of Lucius that was a candidate to "the king's sword" at the same time that Alfred Emal, at volume 8 Hugenot would describe the fall of Lucius' house as the work of a group of higher ranked families that disliked the fact of him succeeding instead of them, but he didn't knew the details, some months later, at volume 13, Alfred told to Rio and Christina the whole story after knowing that Lucius was the one who tried to kidnap Flora the day of Amande's battle.[3][4]
Alfred described the fall of Lucius' family as a lizard's tail cut, he described the Lucius from that time as a prodigal son who lacked consciousness as a noble and loyalty,someone who disliked to live tied to anything with bad companies, a lot of people saw him as a great failure but his talent with the sword was undeniable. There was a lot of nobles of higher rank that didn't likes the idea of Lucius opting to the title, and Lucius who liked to show off his talent to those who didn't have it called their attention even more in a bad way, the nobles who didn't like Lucius' made his father to be found guilty of a scandal fabricated by them and Lucius' house fell.[4] Lucius wasn't chosen as the "King's Sword" because of his house's fall.[3] After the house's fall all of the nobles who plotted it showered Lucius fiercely with all the harassment that the fallen nobles use to receive and Charles Arbor was one of them, Charles got really nervous when Lucius' name was meant, he denyed to be involved in the scandal and said that it someone from his family knew something that would his father, shortly after the house's fall Lucius would become an adventurer.[3][4]
While working as an adventurer he became acquainted with Zen in the Beltram's royal capital. Lucius and Zen started to complete missions together. Lucius looked after Zen in various ways as he was a foreigner. Because of that, Zen brought Lucius home and introduced him to Ayame.[1] Zen treated Lucius as a close friend, to the point where Zen felt comfortable revealing Ayame's lineage to Lucius.[5] Lucius killed Zen.[6] Lucius reported that Zen messed up on the job as an adventurer when Zen died shortly after Rio was born, after Zen's murder Lucius kept acting as a perfect and supportive friend for Ayame, buying things for her in her place, taking care of Rio when she needed to do another thing, playing with Rio and bringing him presents... five years later he assaulted and killed Ayame in front of Rio, he abandoned Rio in the slums and stole everything from his house,[1] then he left Bertram's capital expecting that the Rio that he has just left alive would grow up just thinking in taking revenge someday.[5]
After his leave he founded the mercenary group the heavenly lions also known as the griffins and its victories would make it famous through the Stralh region as a legendary small group of elite warriors that every adventurer doing mercenary job would want to enter to, during the last years the mercenary group stopped its activities and it wasn't known anymore of its member, it wasn't said why but it's highly likely to be due to Lucius lending his men to Reis to have them making secret jobs here and there in preparation for that big plan of his that wants a war with the four biggest countries on it.[7]
Lucius was mentioned for the firs time when Rio told his maternal grandparent's about Ayame's death and his intention of avenging her, when Rio was still in the royal academy was able of knowing that Lucius founded a mercenary group called the heavenly lions, after going back to the Stralh region Rio would try to ask to several informants about Lucius and his mercenary group but all of them would tell him the same, that the mercenary group has stopped its activity for years already and that nobody knows about its members whereabouts.

After helping Celia and Christina's group to escape from Creia Rio decides to stay behind and to defeat their pursuers for earning them time, the who comes Rio's way was Charles Arbor and ten more knights, he pretends to be someone unrelated to Christina and pretends to have opened Creia's south gate for the sake of attracting Charles group outside the city for interrogating him about something, he defeated the knights and asked Charles what he knew about Lucius, Charles got really nervous when hearing that name and mistook rio as an assassin sent by Lucius after him, Reis would listen to that story from Charles and would begin to mobilize Arain, Lucci and Ven for finding Rio.
After being asked about Lucius by some adventurers at a city's gate during his travel he would learn from Vanessa the fact that Lucius used to be a noble from the Bertram kingdom and a former candidate to the king's sword, when Rio makes Aisia to investigate why those adventurers asked him about Lucius they would take her to Arein, by tailing Arein she would overhear him, Lucci and Ven talking about them and Reis being connected to Lucius, how they discovered that Christina was with Rio and their plan of ambushing them, after hearing her report Rio decided to visit the Proxia empire to look for information about Lucius after leaving Rodania.
The morning of the day that Rio left Rodania and went to Amande with Lizelotte and Kota, Flora was riding a magic ship going to Rodania for meeting with Christina now that she joined Restoration too, Lucius and Reis entered her room while talking about someone who really detested Lucius' existence was looking for him, Lucius and Reis were supposed to kill Flora, but for Lucius doing just that was boring so he teleported her to the Paladia Kingdom [8] while being disappointed about Hiroaki not being with her for him to be able of fighting against a hero, that evening he went to Paladia's royal castle for suggesting to Duran to accompany him to a treasure hunt, he would tell Duran that he teleported Flora to the forest at the capital's west and they would go form village to village looking for Flora, at the same time Rio helping Kota to prepare the necessary things in order to become an adventurer.
Three days later Rio arrived at Proxia's capital and fought against Nidor at the midnight, after his defeat Rio said to Nidor that if he wanted to fight Lucius he needed to go to the Paladia kingdom and to asks to the Prince Duran about him, expecting that Rio would really find and kill Lucius because he considered him a plague of the battlefield disliked by both friends and foes.
The next day, Renji that was suspicious of Silvie's recent behavior tailed her until the place where Reis was supposes to give her Esther back after forcing Silvie to getting him inside of the evening party, Renji would tail the Reis that didn't give Esther back to a certain place to where he said Lucius to go after realizing that he was being tailed, Reis would ask Lucius to defeat and capture the person following him, Lucius refused because it looked tedious but agreed when he knew that the opponent was a Hero and he would finally able of fighting against one, Lucius easily defeated Renji and went back to where Duran was for continuing with Flora's search.[9]
The next day Rio arrived to Paladia's capital and sneaked in the castle at night, there he overheard from some soldiers that Duran went out hunting with his mercenary friend to the west forests and Rio left the capital in the morning to after that to look for Duran's and Lucius' group from the sky.
Rio finds Lucius in the outskirts of a remote village in the Paladia Kingdom. Lucius sees Rio's black hair and assumes he's a Hero, but corrects himself when he saw his facial features and deemed them to be from the Yagumo Region. Lucius was overcome with joy, as Rio was still alive and looks forward to killing him.[10] Rio easily overwhelms Lucius, Duran Paladia and his escort knights. Before dying he confessed that he'd killed Zen. Rio obliterates Lucius, leaving nothing behind.[6] His Magical Sword was collected by Reiss, before Lucius was obliterated.[11]
LN Route[]
Reiss Vulpe witnesses his Minotaurs and Revenants being easily killed by Rio in the outskirts of Amande. Reiss considers calling Lucius for support because now he lacks combat power for his plan of raiding Amande..[12]
In the Proxia Empire's Imperial capital, Lucius is speaking with Nidoll, he sees Nidoll acting bored as he uses to do because there isn't any war and he tries to convince him of participating in a funny thing that he has been preparing, Nidoll refuses saying that he doesn't like the same unsavory things that Lucius, he asks him now if he's worried about the Arbor family falling sooner than expected but Nidoll refuses to care in the slightest about the Bertram kingdom, Lucius agrees while shrugging ironically and saying that it's normal to not care about a country that will be destroyed soon, Lucius then intended to go back to the Paladia Kingdom when Reiss entered the room, Reis explained how his plan of capturing Liselotte failed due to her escort Aria was stronger than expected, that now near her there's an irregular existence too and he needs his help with them, he then explains his plan for kidnapping Flora while at the same time damaging the Galarc Kingdom's economy by raiding Amande and the Rikka guild.[13]
The day after attacking Liselotte's group, Alphonse other twenty knights are scouting the forest at Amande's west in the search of the remaining of the monsters group they fought yesterday, while Alphonse is seething in anger after being forced to make dogear in front of Rio by Hugenot Reis and Lucius appears before them, Alphonse would want to take his anger out in Lucius but Lucius quickly defeated everyone and gave them to Reis for him to make them into revenants, while capturing Alphonse Lucius said to Reis that he felt something from him and that he should try to make him into a perfect revenant, Reis did as said and after their job was over they slept in the forest before beginning the raid before dawn on the next morning. [14]
Reis sent a group of three minotaurs, a lot of revenants and a coup of thousands of goblins and orcs to Amande's west gate, this group was supposed to keep Aria and as much strong fighters as possible away from Liselotte's mansion. Reis released another minotaur, more revenants and between one and two thousand goblins and orcs at Amande's east gate, this group of monsters was for the sake of keeping Rio occupied, Reis had a third group of monsters prepared in case of Aisia going out to fight too, but after seeing how she was able to stay by Celia's side he didn't release them.
Reis ordered the strongest monsters like the minotaurs and the revenants to stay in the rear guard of the monster group, that way the strongest fighters that were supposed to deal with them would have to stay longer at the city gates, then if they saw that Aria and or Rio decided to charge through the monster group for killing them they must to roar loudly and with that as a signal he, Lucius and the demonized Alphonse would sneak in Liselotte's mansion, Rio killed the minotaur on his side before it could give its signal to Reis but with the roars of minotaurs from the west gate Reis and Lucius continued their plan.
The demonized Alphonse guides Reis and Lucius towards the room lent to the Bertram's group, Flora, Roana, Hiroaki and Hugenot were inside the room with Stewart and another two knights guarding them while another two watched the door, Lucius killed the two watching the door and made the demonized Alphonse to enter the room with another four revenants, three of the four revenants began to fight against Stewart and the other two knights, Alphonse punched Hiroaki away and ordered the fourth revenant to keep Hiroaki away from him if he gets up because he wanted to take his time killing Hugenot slowly, Roana seeing the desperate situation would try to convince Flora of running away alone while they earn time, Lucius appeared at that time from a door near to them and would grab Flora's arm while pretending to be evacuating her, while pulling Flora's arm Lucius began to think that it would be fun to see Roana's face when she realizes that she gave Flora to a kidnapper and tries to go back, Reis stops him saying to stop playing around because he fells Aisia getting near to the mansion, Lucius then escapes through Lizelotte's garden while carrying Flora on his shoulder, then Rio would recognize his voice and pursue him.
After Lucius jumps over Amande's walls Rio finally catches up to him, they begin to exchange sword attacks while Lucius uses several times Flora as a shield to make Rio stop his attacks and in the opening defeating him, but Rio answers well to Lucius attacks even like that, when they realize that that way anyone will break the stalemate both stop attacking.
Because Lucius was covering the face with a hood Rio first confirms, Are you Lucius, what if I am, are you searching for me?, I don't know if I don't see the face, Lucius stabs the sword in the ground removes the hood and shows the face, How is it? Am I the one you were looking for, Yes I searched you for so long, then say who you are, it isn't interesting If I don't know why the other wants revenge, after a little more of provocation Lucius threats with cutting Flora's leg if Rio doesn't answer him, but Rio still doesn't yield so Lucius offers to let go of Flora in exchange of Rio saying who he is, partly too because he thinks that he can't win against Rio while carrying Flora, Rio accepts, Lucius lets Flora fall to the ground where she is in the verge of crying for everything that happened until now, she is surprised of seeing Haruto is the one that came to her Rescue and both Rio and Lucius say to her to keep a little of distance for them to be able of fighting.
I kept the promise now is your turn, more than ten years ago I used to live in Bertram's capital, Flora is curious about Haruto being from the same city than her, you were observing a certain mother and son, so it was you, because of the hair color I didn't recognize you, so you were alive, ah as expected, you came for revenge, Lucius begins to provoke Rio. Ayame was really fine woman you know, that was fun, no don't kill him, don't kill Rio, Flora is surprised of hearing the name Rio while Lucius is annoyed because Rio doesn't answer to his provocations and just keeps making a cold face, he tries to provoke him more, I heard it from Zen you know? that Ayame used to be a princess in the Yagumo region, Flora after hearing that Rio is a royalty like her becomes completely unable of following the conversation anymore due to the surprise, but Rio still doesn't reacts to Lucius' words and after a little more of provocation the fight begins.
Rio accelerates with spirit arts, passes next to Lucius and cuts his left arm, Lucius is scared because he didn't saw Rio's attack at all and swings his sword toward his back where he expects Rio to be, Rio dodges and begins to attack Lucius again, Lucius is unable of fully receiving with one hand Rio's attacks wielding the sword with two hands, after Lucius accumulates small cuts for some time Rio kicks his stomach and sends him flying, Lucius rolls in the ground to disperse the impact and stands again, he sees a great quantity of light bullets made by Rio coming at him, he counters with the magic of his sword shooting darkness that swallows the light bullets, behind Lucius the ground begins to change form to a group of stakes, he cuts them with his sword and notices another volley of light bullets coming from above, he shoots again a mass of darkness to erase them but this time Rio just added more and more light bullets after the ones he erased and began to hit his body from all the sides at the same time.
While receiving Rio's bombardment Lucius is thinking that first he needs to recover the cut arm and reattach it, it wouldn't move for a while but, while Lucius is thinking that Rio picks up the fallen arm and asks to Lucius, do you want this, he throws Lucius' arm in the air and burns it to ashes in a second, Flora is scared of Rio's magic and because the heat from that last magic even reached her, what a bad taste, not as bad as you that raped my mother in front of me, Rio strikes with his knee Lucius' face and Lucius loses his left eye while flying back again, Rio begins to walk to where Lucius is, at the same time Flora wonders, what is it with this fight that is the same that the ones of the master magicians in the books.
Rio arrives next to Lucius and was going to finish him off stabbing him, Lucius moves and Rio fails the heart, Rio begins to make the sword emit enough heat to vaporize Lucius body around its edge and opens a hole in Lucius's abdomen, while the hole is opening Lucius stabs his sword on the ground to attack Flora sending the edge of the sword through the space, Rio protects Flora and Reis takes that chance to pick up Lucius while keeping Rio away with light bullets, I still have plans for this men I can't let you kill him, Lucius are you going to just run away like that, let me go Reis I'm going to kill that bastard, don't say stupid things you're going to die in moments if you stop the body strengthening, a black dragon controlled by Reis attacks and while Rio defends from the dragon breath that is like a big black laser with a great white beam of light he created with spirit arts Reis teleports to a basement of Proxia's castle with Lucius, after seeing its breath pushed back at him by Rio's spirit arts the dragon runs away too.[5]
Reiss teleported him and Lucius back to Proxia's Imperial capital. Reiss quickly gave Lucius; an emergency treatment by implanting a red gem to fix the large hole in Lucius' abdomen. Lucius refused to believe he would of lost if he didn't lose his left arm. However Reiss reprimanded Lucius that he still would of lost and he's too weak, much to Lucius chagrin. Reiss suggest Lucius to leave Rio alone, believing that leaving him alone wouldn't affect their plans.[5] Reiss gave Lucius a new left arm, Lucius spent his time recuperating from his injuries and getting familiar to his new parts.[2]
Months later when Lucius heard from Arein, Lucci and Ven how Reis fought against Rio he was furious and began to look for Reis, when he found Reis talking to Nidoll he began to complain to him about Rio being his prey and to demand and explanation, Reis would say that he fought against Rio just because he didn't have another option and he would try to convince Lucius of not fighting against him alone because Rio's strength is awakened hero class and he may reach the transcends if handled poorly while Lucius is great hero class at maximum, he says to Lucius that he would have a chance of killing Rio soon if he follows his plan, Lucius leaves the room and orders Arein, Lucci and Ven to have always with them all of the teleportation magic tools that Reis gave them.
A month later, the day after the Rio vs Nidoll Reis deceived Renji for fighting against Lucius betting to have to as Reis says once if he loses against Lucius, when Lucius goes back to Proxia's castle he would finally be told by Reis all the details of the plan for assassinating Rio, how he made Nidoll to say to Rio to go visit Duran if he wanted to know his location, How Duran would give Rio false information and while he's away of Rodania they would kidnap Celia together for using her as hostage against him, after Reis left Lucius called in Arein, Lucci and Ven and began to plan Christina's and Flora's kidnapping, while doing this he begins to remember his fight with Rio, he's thinking of the Rio that appeared that day before him as the ideal opponent, that makes for Lucius even more unforgivable for Lucius, he can't tolerate Rio not being someone as pure as him, after letting him alive Rio was supposed to grow up into someone like him, but he went and left other thing to get in the way of their fight, so he decided that now he will show him the naivety and the stupidity of wasting his strength on having things to protect and then powerlessness and frustration from losing them.
Lucius ordered Arein to say to Duran on his instead to keep Rio on Paladia's capital for guiding him to the place where he will be with Flora and Christina, he orders Lucci to prepare the provisions for Christina and Flora in the hut that is near the place they will be teleported to, ha orders Ven to investigate the sister's location and to choose the time and place for kidnapping them, after that they will teleport to the place where Reis told them to stay and play dumb in front of him. Two days later as ordered Christina and Flora were teleported to the forest of the Paladia kingdom, some hours later he left Reis alone at the time of trying to kidnap Celia and followed the sisters' trace through the forest until their camp, Lucius saw Flora being bitten by the spider and Christina having to carry her to a village while enjoying the sight of their struggle from the distance, after seeing Christina arriving at the village he teleported to Paladia's capital and said to Duran to send Rio to that village, Duran did as he said in exchange of letting him to see his combat against Rio, Lucius and Duran teleported to the village and arrived to where Christina and Flora where, a little after them arrived Rio, the five went together to a hilly area next to the village where Rio and Lucius had their final fight and Rio finally killed Lucius.

- Rio: He killed Rio's parents after pretending to be their friend and left him alive hoping that when he grows up he would come back for revenge. However, this proved to be a fatal and stupid mistake as it led to Rio easily killing him.
- Nidoll Proxia: both collaborate with Reis on his plan of creating a great war with the four biggest countries on it, they were never shown to be close to each other.
- Reiss Vulpe: Lucius was collaborating with Reis' plan for starting a war with the four biggest countries on it, but his reasons for helping Reis or his paper in Reis' plans are still unknown.
- Duran Paladia: They have a client and contractor relationship. Nidol wrote a recommendation letter of recommendation for Lucius to Duran, they got along because both enjoyed to bully the weak and were fellow warmongers.[15]

Lucius is a masterful swordsman, once being a candidate to the "King's Sword", Alfred, a swordsman of his own right described his talent with a sword as undeniable.
Equipment[]
Lucius has different unique equipment.
- Demon Sword: Lucius has a demon sword, which allows him to manipulate space, letting him teleport a short-distance and stab through space to attack an opponent from a long-distance. In addition to this, it can shooting out masses of darkness, which swallows everything like black holes.
- New left eye: A black eye with a gold iris, which allows him to teleport whatever is in his area of vision, sending back his opponent's attacks. It reduces the magic power needed for wielding the spatial-based powers of his demon sword.
- New Left Arm: An arm covered in black bandages, from the fingers up to his shoulders, which allows him to use magic power with greater precision, using less when stabbing through space with his demon sword.
